Saturday Night

After a big day out, a well earned dinner in Derby at The Hub, to enjoy Jason and Jacqueline’s special pizzas, or a more international menu at Main Street over the road are both great options. The locals favourite restaurant is Pinocchio’s, a 10 minute drive to Branxholm which offers a wide variety of classic Italian food from pasta to pizza and calzones.

Sunday

Start the day with breakfast at Two Doors Down or Derby Providore. Hit the trails one more time or if you want a slower paced end to your weekend we’d suggest the incredible Floating Sauna, propped up on Lake Derby you can get your sweat on followed by a cold plunge into the lake. Perfect for recovery after a long and active weekend. Make sure to make a booking beforehand. If you’d love to find a piece of Derby to take home with you you can go prospecting for Sapphires and Topaz in the local rivers, finishing at Lot 40 for afternoon drinks with live music.

For The Non Bikers

If mountain biking is not your thing there is still plenty to do. We suggest booking Peter and the DFC bus to explore St Columba Falls and the Pyengana Cheese Factory, then on to the Blue Tier Giant Tree.

St Columba Falls is only 30 minutes from St Helens and a short 15 minutes walk to the falls, making it an easy trip to see something spectacular. They are one of Tasmania’s highest falls at over 90 metres! Stroll through cool and shady rainforest canopies to end up at the lookout where you can see the South George River rolling down the cascades.

The farmers of Pyengana have been hand making traditional cloth matured farmhouse cheddar for more than 130 years.

‘Situated on acres of rolling green hills, Pyengana Farmgate Café is an idyllic country paradise in which to enjoy our menu of local produce and dairy heroes with friends and family. Indulge in a breakfast or lunch specialty, share a gourmet platter on the scenic deck, savour barista coffee and Tasmanian wines and beers, give the kids free rein in the on-site playground, and pick up a scoop of local ice-cream for the drive out’

A further 20 minutes toward St Helens is the Blue Tier Giant Tree. The tree is a giant amongst giants and is in the most pristine ancient bush, a place where time has seemed to be at a standstill. The direct path is approximately 30 minutes easy walking but another 30 minutes encompasses the Cradle Tree, another spectacular sight.
